Have you ever considered creating your own blog to give others helpful advice, share ideas and and make money? It’s super easy. Here’s how to get started in three steps.
1. Pick your domain name. You can really let your personality shine through with your name choice. Try entering one in the box above to see if it’s available. If it’s not–keep trying!
2. Select your host and blogging software. Once you own your domain, the next step is to find a host company that will display your blog. We recommend Bluehost because they have good, cheap rates and reliable service. They’ll also let you reserve your domain name for free if you choose them as your host.
You’ll also need to install blogging software on your site. We like WordPress software because it’s free and easy to install and use. You don’t have to be an advanced computer geek to get your site up and running.
You’ll generally find an installation link from your host’s dashboard page. Select the WordPress icon and there will be instructions on the screen to walk you through the process.
Once installation is complete, you’ll be given a WordPress username and password to log into your site and edit it. Write down this information and keep it in a safe place!
3. Make it look the way you want it. In WordPress, you “beautify” your site with “themes”, which are pre-designed page templates. Wordpress has thousands of themes to choose from.
First, log in and then go to the menu on the left hand side of your screen. Click on “Appearance”, then click on “Themes”. At that point, you can select a theme to make your page look just the way you want it. You can browse free WordPress themes here.
There are also “pro” themes that cost some money, but the theme creators usually offer better technical support. That can be helpful if you’re just starting out. Either way, select your theme to give your site a design that you like.
And there you have it! You’ve created a blog! This will be a work in process, of course, but you’ve just completed the most important part. Congratulations! We’ll be adding more articles soon on how to add posts and start to make money from your blog. In the mean time, if you’ve just created a blog, let us know!
